The General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A-level)
is the gold standard of the British secondary education system.
It is the usual and preferred entrance qualification of all British
universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
A-level courses are normally taken over two years, and the A-level
is now divided into two parts: AS (Advanced Subsidiary) examinations
are taken at the end of the first year, and A2 examinations at
the end of the second.
Students usually take four AS subjects in the first year, and
three or four A2 subjects in the second. In exceptional cases,
mature students or students with particularly strong academic
backgrounds may be able to complete both AS and A2 examinations
in a single year, depending on the subjects studied. Oxford International
College will advise suitable students of this option, following
their initial assessment or interview.
Our A-level courses are strongly geared towards the individual
needs of each student, and tuition is normally on an individual
basis. The hours devoted to each subject may be varied according
to the strengths of each student.
It is quite common for students to transfer to Oxford International
College for the second year of their A-level studies (A2) having
completed the first year (AS) elsewhere. The most common reason
for this is that the student failed to achieve satisfactory results
in their AS exams, and they require a more personal form of education
that is focused on their individual needs to put them 'back on
track'. As the AS exam results are published in August, we are
happy to consider late applications for admission in September. |
