Individual tuition is an effective form of teaching,
not least because the student is engaged and concentrating for
the full duration of the tutorial. This is a far cry from the
drifting attention that is often to be found in large school
classes. For this reason our students do not require as many
hours of direct contact time with their tutor as would be the
case at school.
A typical weekly timetable will comprise 12 hours
of individual tuition and 24 hours of monitored independent study
in the College Study Room in which students undertake written
work or projects prescribed by their tutors, with occasional
guidance and assistance available from College staff. The independent
study periods form a vital part of the student's working routine,
and provide excellent preparation for the type of study that
they will meet at university.
