OIC Maths Competition

Oxford International students take a tough internal maths test to win a place on the national UKMT maths challenge in November

Some exciting news from tutor Matthew White in the Maths department: last Tuesday students took park in an hour-long maths challenge in preparation for entering the national UKMT Senior Maths Challenge on November 7 and the Senior Maths Team Challenge on November 15 (see www.ukmt.org.uk). For the team challenge, four students from Oxford International College will be entered to compete as a team against other schools in our local area.

The UKMT Team Challenges promote mathematical dexterity, teamwork and communication skills and give students the opportunity to compete against students from other schools in their region.The UKMT Individual Maths Challenges are lively, intriguing multiple choice question papers and attract over 600,000 entries from over 4,000 schools and colleges. The Senior Team Maths Challenge (STMC) is a competition testing mathematical, communication and teamwork skills. The challenge's main activities include:

  • Group Round
  • Crossnumber
  • Shuttle
  • and the famous Relay round
